Good morning everyone, today I’m gonna introduce 3 music tracks that represent death from different perspectives, and let’s get started.

[Turn the page]

The first track, named R.I.P., is by EICATEVE, from a Japanese music competition in 2018.

It was dedicated to the remembrance of a friend of the composer, who passed away at the age of 21 because of a traffic accident.
Let’s listen to the first part of this music:

[Play the music]

So obviously the melody is pretty dark, and the drum beat is aggressive. Since it’s illustrating and accidental death, it should describe the darkness of pain suffered before death rather than death itself.

And let’s listen to the second part of this track, which is completely different:

[Play the music]

It made a huge contrast, as the melody suddenly turns bright and hopeful. So it should be illustrating the relief from the pain mentioned before and start a new version of life.

Let’s move on to the second track, called Last, composed by onoken, from a mobile rhythm game called Arcaea. And let’s listen to it a little bit:

[Play the music]

Instead of accepting death, this track shows a feeling to refuse, or fight against death, because it forces people to lose connection with things that still exist or are still alive in the world. Therefore, what the track ultimately illustrates is a rebellion against this nature of death.

Last one, called Cryout by JU_E. It is a dedication to the death of the composer’s friend as well. Let’s listen

[Play the music]

Different from the previous two, this track was highly ordered, the structure is natural, and simple. So there are no unexpected twists, everything goes straight forward.
That sort of reflects the inevitability of death as well as the idea of meeting it with quiet, silent acceptance rather than panic.

[Turn the page]

Compare all three together, this points to an interesting idea which, death is, in many ways, defined by how different people view it.
Different perspectives produce different interpretations. In this specific case deaht can be either a dramatic ending or just a quiet exit.

Thanks for listening.
